A high-performing island typically includes:

• seating that doesn’t block walkways

• outlets/charging (planned intentionally)

• trash pullout on the prep side

• storage for bowls, cutting boards, or small appliances

• lighting that matches the scale of the island

Pro tip: It’s better to have one generous island than two cramped work surfaces.
