A contract should protect both sides and create clarity. At minimum, look for:

• Clear scope and specs

• Payment schedule tied to milestones

• Start date and timeline expectations

• Warranty/closeout expectations

• Change-order process in writing

• How disputes are handled

• What happens if material lead times change

If you don’t understand a section, ask questions until you do. Clarity prevents conflict later.
